Description

Knauf Plasterboard Sheets Square Edge 9mm | 2.4m x 1.2m

For a quicker and easier alternative to traditional plaster, the 9mm Plasterboard Sheets supplied by Knauf are made from the highest quality gypsum, between two sheets of paper, to offer strength, durability and can add extra purposes and features compared to traditional plaster.

Plasterboard can be added to ceilings and wall linings to provide insulating properties, as well as resistance to fire and moisture and reduce noise that can travel through walls and ceilings. These boards are also easy to remove and place elsewhere, making it a perfect material to use in case of any future layout changes or renovation.

Plasterboard has many benefits over traditional plaster, aside from the convenience and ease of installation and re-installation. Plasterboard is more durable and is less susceptible to cracking than wet plaster, meaning no need for extra touch-ups or worry over the integrity of the plaster. The 9mm Knauf Plasterboard Sheets come with ivory paper face as standard, and are sealed prior to any decorating that may take place.

The Knauf Plasterboard is available in thicknesses of 9mm and 12.5mm and in a standard sheet size of 2.4m x 1.2m

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Knauf 9mm square edge plasterboard 2.4m x 1.2m typically used for?

This 9mm Knauf square edge plasterboard is commonly used for internal ceilings and lightweight wall linings where a thinner, easier-to-handle board is sufficient. It provides a smooth, stable surface ready for skimming or taping and jointing.

Can I use 9mm plasterboard on walls as well as ceilings?

Yes, 9mm plasterboard can be used on some wall linings, usually over an existing sound background or where loads are light. For new stud partitions or where you expect impact or fixing loads, 12.5mm boards are more commonly specified. Always follow Knauf and building regulation guidance.

Do I need to skim Knauf 9mm plasterboard or can I tape and joint?

You can either fully skim with finishing plaster or tape and joint the seams, then seal and decorate. Taping and jointing is popular for ceilings and dry areas because it can be faster, provided joints are finished carefully and the board surface is properly sealed before painting.

Is this 9mm plasterboard suitable for use in bathrooms or kitchens?

Standard 9mm plasterboard can be used in kitchens and bathrooms with normal humidity levels, provided it is well ventilated and properly tiled or decorated. For areas subject to frequent or heavy moisture, such as shower enclosures or wet rooms, a moisture-resistant or cement-based board is recommended instead.

What are the exact dimensions and coverage of this board?

Each board is 9mm thick, 2400mm long and 1200mm wide, covering approximately 2.88m². This makes it easy to cover standard room heights and joist or stud spacings with minimal joints.

How should I fix 9mm plasterboard to ceilings and walls?

Fix the boards to timber or metal framing using suitable drywall screws, typically at 300mm centres along edges and intermediate supports. Stagger joints, keep boards tight together and avoid aligning joints on the same stud where possible. Always follow Knauf installation instructions for best results.

Do I need to prime the plasterboard before painting?

Yes. Before painting, apply a suitable drywall sealer or a mist coat of watered-down emulsion. This helps control suction, improve paint adhesion and give a more even finish. Avoid using PVA as a sealer under paint, as it can cause adhesion issues.

Can I tile directly onto Knauf 9mm plasterboard?

You can tile onto plasterboard in many dry and some mildly wet areas, as long as the board is securely fixed and the tile weight does not exceed recommended limits. For heavier tiles or very wet areas, use appropriate backing boards and always follow tiling and manufacturer guidance.

How do I cut and handle 9mm plasterboard safely?

Score the face with a sharp knife along a straight edge, snap the board along the score line and cut through the back paper. Handle the board with care to avoid edge damage and wear gloves, eye protection and a suitable dust mask when cutting or sanding.

Does 9mm plasterboard provide any fire or acoustic performance?

Standard Knauf plasterboard contributes to the overall fire and acoustic performance of a wall or ceiling system, but performance depends on the complete system build-up, including board thickness, layers and framing. For enhanced fire or sound performance, refer to Knauf system specifications or consider dedicated performance boards.
