The Roughneck Splitting Maul is is extremely powerful and makes easy work of log splitting. The distinctive anti-jam blade is designed for faster and easier splitting. Made from hardened and tempered drop forged alloy steel with a solid core fibreglass handle and polypropylene cover. It also has a polished striking face with chamfered edges and uses industrial grade epoxy for a longer lasting bond.

The splitting axe is smaller and easier to handle for longer periods of time whereas the maul is heavy and requires both hands to swing.

The maul is designed to divide a piece of wood in two by forcing the wood fibres apart parallel to the grain. The V-shaped head forces the crack apart with continuous pressure, The dull edge exploits a crack between fibres.

The splitting maul is drop-forged and has a heat-treated steel head it also has a fibreglass soft-grip handle.

The splitting maul is also used with wood-splitting wedges by first making a notch with the splitting edge, and then driving the wedge with the maul's striking face. Never use this tool in striking concrete. Never drive a maul by striking it with another maul, sledge or another striking tool.
